BEAUTY IS DISCOVERED, BEAUTY IS CREATED
Original Obsydian stone is, like the diamond, a rare and splendid creation of nature that only expert hands can shape, revealing its innate beauty. Obsydian specialises in working semi-precious stones to create precious architectural details, incorporated into furnishing or design projects in perfect combination with other materials. Originality is guaranteed by three fundamental phases.
PHASE ONE — SELECTING THE RAW MATERIAL
The raw material must meet specific parameters. In the case of rough labradorite blocks (average size 40×60×30 cm), compactness and iridescence are assessed: features that experts can identify at the very first inspection of the block.
PHASE TWO — PROCESSING AND CUTTING
This involves cutting the rough stone into slabs of varying thickness, determined by the final use. Manual cutting is an essential part and requires extreme precision and mastery, to create pieces of various sizes intended for different assemblies.
PHASE THREE — CALIBRATION, BONDING AND ASSEMBLY
Smaller pieces are sanded to make the surface smooth, ready for polishing. Semi-precious stones have different characteristics: some, such as Malachite and Lapis Lazuli, are soft; others, such as Jasper and Tiger's Eye, are among the hardest materials. The result depends on the expert hands of the artisans.
COLLABORATION WITH FIDELIO
One of the fastest-growing collaborations is with Fidelio, the world's first brand to have founded the category of customisable luxury design. Fidelio used selected Obsydian materials — white mother-of-pearl and labradorite — to enhance two of its key pieces: the Buonanotte Table and the Espresso Coffee Table.
